The world’s oldest woman, Tomiko Itokan from Japan, has passed away at the age of 116, according to NHK. She died on December 29th at a nursing home in the city of Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture.

Tomiko Itokan was born on May 23, 1908, in Osaka. She was the oldest of three sisters.

About 30 years ago, she moved to the city of Ashiya. After the death of the world’s oldest woman in Spain at the age of 117 last year, Tomiko Itokan took her place. Prior to that, she was recognized as the oldest woman in Japan.
